Peter Oketola
Scholarship Program
Excellence in Leadership & Character Award
Celebrating the students in Nigeria’s public schools who carry the future of this nation not only in their grades, but in the irreplaceable architecture of their character.
The Peter Oketola Scholarship Program is a character-and-leadership recognition award for students in Nigerian public secondary schools. It bears the name of Pastor Peter Oketola — a man whose life stands as living proof that character is the true foundation of greatness. Each year, the program identifies, honours, and invests in students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, moral courage, and service within their school communities. Recipients are awarded a cash prize, a certificate of excellence, and a place in the growing family of Caring Touch ambassadors.
At its core, this program issues a challenge to a cultural assumption that has done enormous harm: that intelligence alone determines a student’s worth. The Peter Oketola Award declares publicly and emphatically that a child who is honest, disciplined, kind, and courageous in the face of pressure deserves to be seen, named, and rewarded. Academic excellence matters — but the moral architecture of a person determines what they ultimately do with their education.
“A nation is only as strong as the character of the generation it raises. This award exists to find that generation — and to tell them, before the whole world, that we see them.”
What distinguishes this award from conventional scholarships is its structured, measurable character assessment framework. Nominated students are not evaluated by examination but by evidence of character lived out in daily school life. Partner schools receive the Behavioural Pillars Nomination Rubric, guiding teachers and principals in identifying and nominating candidates across twelve dimensions of character excellence.
